The Shuzo Takiguchi Archive was founded in 1986 on the basis of the library he owned. The Archive was made possible through the courtesy of his widow Ayako Takiguchi who donated the library to Tama Art University, as well as through kindness of emeritus professor Yoshiaki Tono of Tama Art University and professor Kunio Iwaya of Meiji Gakuin University.
The Archive houses about 3500 Japanese books, 2500 foreign ones, 3000 periodicals, about 200 posters and works of and materials about Gruppo T, in total about 10000 items. They are divided into 4 classes. 1) about 800 items of Dada-Surrealist literature, 2) books of art and literature by his younger friends who admired Takiguchi as moral supporter, 3) books and periodicals used by Takiguchi in his writings, 4) books by Takiguchi himself, and periodicals which contain his articles.
The Archive doesn't contain materials which his wife Ayako cherished until her death. It is now being classified and further efforts are being made to collect literature concerning Takiguchi Shuzo and Dada/Surrealism for further research.
In summer 1996, the Archive exhibited the rare catalogue of one-man exhibition by Sohu Teshigawara and 34 other books and 17 periodicals on the occasion of the exhibition "1953 Shedding Light on Art in Japan" organized by Tama Art University and Meguro Museum of Art. In that autumn followed the Exhibition "Poster Collection of the Shuzo Takiguchi Archive" at the Museum of Tama Art University.
The Archive collaborated also with other institutions to show, for example,To write on a Margin and other 9 books designed by Takiguchi on the exhibition "Japanese Book Design 1946-1995" at Ginza Graffic Gallery in February 1995, and showed in winter 1995-1996, Andre Breton's Nadja(1928) and 7 other books concerning Surrealism at the exhibition "Surrealism and Photography" at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography.
